Client Reviews

Very helpful!! I needed to find a salon in a hurry and Robert came to my rescue. He not only recommended a great salon but had a coupon for me as well. Very impressed!

LeeAnn Hudak Sherman   Business Manager  Butler, PA

With a family member in Allegheny General's ICU, my knowledge of nearby restaurants at least 25 years old, and my thought process a bit fuzzy under the circumstances, anyway, I asked Robert for a recommendation. He replied immediately with three great ones, including addresses and phone numbers so all I had to do was click on links to see locations and to call. They were also in descending order, by overall price, which was helpful. We went to Legends, right by AGH, and we all agreed that we will go out of our way to go back there again soon. Will also check out the other two sometime, as they also have to be great to have made Robert's list.

I went to Robert with a specific restaurant request & he provided me with several options, all the while helping me to narrow my choices until I found the perfect restaurant. My husband & I had a wonderful time and the food was delicious as promised. Robert was a great help!

I think this will be very helpful when I come to Pittsburgh in helping me find a place to stay and fine dining and attractions.

The Allegheny Inn

For anyone who has passed the corner of East North Avenue and Cedar Avenue on Pittsburgh's Northside in the Historic Deutschtown neighborhood, you are probably aware of the beautiful victorian that resides on that corner at 1010 Cedar Ave.

After 35 years of neglect, this stately structure is being loving restored and updated, including all of the amenities necessary to be reborn as the elegant "Allegheny Inn".

I was treated to a tour of the interior by the ever energetic financiers, acting project managers and hands-on workers, Susie and Paul, who are also the proud parents of Brent. Brent, along with his lifelong friend Justin and wife Kelie, are business partners and the primary owners.  Neither Susie nor Paul are new to this industry as they currently own and run the The The Allegheny Inn                                                                                                                      Columbiana Inn Bed and Breakfast in Columbiana, OH.

When complete, the Inn will feature 5 beautifully appointed sleeping rooms, each with fireplaces, separate baths, claw foot tubs and modern updated showers, fixtures and amenities. New porcelain tiles gleam in each. Many of the plastered walls throughout have been smoothed and freshly painted. Two of the largest sleeping rooms will feature park view windows overlooking the beautifully green and spacious Allegheny Commons Park. Newly milled and authentic looking window seats on which to rest, read and relax add that historic ambience. A generous parlor with double mantled fireplaces and matching modern but appropriate chandeliers awaits you as you enter the main door.  An elegant dining room, a commercial kitchen, a new, modern innkeeper apartment and tons of charm, elegance and original detailing make this a glorious home in which to lay one's head for a night or a mini vacation.

Even in it's current evolving state, the vision of what this is to become is quite apparent. Salvaged period fireplace mantles along with an original are painstakingly being restored and reintroduced into the grand rooms throughout. Crown moldings have been repaired and replaced as have plastered ceilings, aglow with new and beautiful chandeliers and light fixtures in every room. 35 original doors have been stripped of old paint as have the newel post, banisters and steps of the main staircase. Wood moldings and details have been masterfully replicated by Tim, a master of woodworking and carpentry and the general contractor on this project. It is obvious that every attention is being paid to detail and authenticity to ensure that this home will offer an upscale experience to those who visit.

When talking with Susie today, it is evident that they are excited to play a role in the revitalization of Pittsburgh’s North Side and Historic Deutschtown neighborhood. There are many ideas being discussed to make the most of this beautiful space and it's many offerings. From meeting rooms to possible cooking classes with private dining to parties and receptions. It seems that the future is looking bright for this much anticipated offering in the ever changing hospitality sector.

I have been invited back to see the restoration and the decoration as it progresses. I look forward to and am honored to be permitted this access and to share with all of you the progress of this charming jewel as it glows brightly with polish and tender care. This truly is a labor of love and I for one am very excited to see this level of accommodation being offered in such close proximity to downtown.

By best approximation, the hope is to start taking reservations by Summer's beginning.

Update on the Allegheny Inn and my new important role with this wonderful Bed and Breakfast!

Interestingly, since my above article on the Allegheny Inn, there are many updates. After my walk through, and after some prompting from family and friends, I applied for the position of General Manager of this fabulous historic building. Only after many weeks of interviews, checking references and background checks, I was offered and accepted the position.

Since the week after the above article, I have been doing a lot of painting, cleaning, painting...did I mention painting. I designed the courtyard and garden, built the fountain and helped to decorate the room in the pics you see below. Yes, I have been very hands on, working with a wonderful team to lovingly restore this grand house to it's former glory.

We are nearer to completion but at this writing have no definite Grand Opening planned. We are very optimistic for a Holiday opening.

We are now on twitter @thealleghenyinn. If you are interested in reading the history of this building, we share great information, pictures and general information about the owners and partners on our website alleghenyinn.com. You can follow our day by day progress on facebook.com/alleghenyinn.
